Mental Health Accommodation for Adults and Young People

Our residential services provide adults with a diagnosed mental health condition a safe place to live. Get in touch if you or someone you care for are seeking NDIS supported accommodation or mental health housing.

Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Supported mental health accommodation for adults needing assistance and support with day to day living who have severe or complex mental health concerns.

Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service

Supervised short to longer-term accommodation for young people aged 16-21 years old needing assistance and support with day to day living who have severe or complex mental health concerns.

Therapeutic Community Placement

Supervised short to longer-term accommodation for young people needing assistance and support with day to day living who have severe or complex mental health concerns and are in the care of the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women.

Transitional Supported Living

Supported short term accommodation and mental health housing for young people needing assistance and support with day to day living who have severe or complex mental health concerns.

Step Up Step Down

Short term clinical and non-clinical residential support for both young people (aged 16 to 21) and adults who may require assistance and support either before a hospital admission (Step Up) for mental health concerns or after a hospital admission (Step Down).


NDIS Supported Independent Living

Our Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes provide a safe place to live for adults living with complex mental health concerns. Our team of highly trained support workers provide SIL residents with 24/7 assistance in a comfortable shared home. These residential homes offer assistance in day-to-day living, whilst fostering a sense of independence for adults by helping them find stability in managing daily life in the community. Stride’s SIL services are available for open referral and are funded under the NDIS. As a leading provider of supported housing, we have SIL’s in South-East Queensland, Sydney, Orange and Newcastle.


Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service

Our Youth Residential Rehabilitation services provide short to longer-term accommodation are for young people aged 16-21 years living with complex mental health concerns.

This supervised accommodation provides 24/7 assistance with day-to-day living, whilst supporting the young person in their recovery journey. Support within these units can be offered for up to 12 months, a time in which the young person can develop the skills needed to lead a fulfilling future.

Stride currently provides two Youth Residential Rehabilitation services in Queensland, located in Brisbane. These services operate under a closed referral pathway, in partnership with the state health departments only.


Therapeutic Community Placement

Supervised short to longer-term accommodation for young people (aged 12-18) needing assistance and support with day to day living who have severe or complex mental health concerns and are in the care of the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs. Services operate from various locations across Queensland, including regional areas.

Our Youth Therapeutic Community Placement is for young people requiring intensive, therapeutic out of home care who have moderate to complex mental health needs and for who other placement options have been unsuccessful.

The program aims to support young people in out of home care in their social and emotional wellbeing, cognitive development and safety to reduce the impact of negative experiences in childhood. These services operate under a closed referral pathway, only referrals from Child Safety Placement Support Services are taken for these residences.


Transitional Supported Living

Our Transitional Supported Living services offer accommodation and support for those who are living with complex mental health concerns receiving support from the Local Health District Community Mental Health Teams.

Stride operates three Transitional Supported Living facilities located in NSW:

  • Kurinda medium-term accommodation 24/7 support located in Western Sydney servicing young people (aged 14-24)
  • Mawarra medium-term accommodation 10/7 support located the Inner West of Sydney servicing adults (aged Over 18)
  • Biala low-medium term accommodation 3 -5 hrs support per week located in the Inner West of Sydney servicing adults (aged over 18)


Strides transitional services provide intense mental health support with a strong focus on independent skill building and preparation for independent living.


Step Up Step Down

The Step Up service is for those in the community who require short-term residential support with intensive clinical treatment and psychosocial support to prevent the risk of further decline or relapse, which, in the absence of this option may lead to admission to an acute mental health inpatient unit.

The Step Down program is for those who no longer require acute impatient level clinical intervention and treatment and aims to empower people take control of their mental health with prevention and recovery-focused care, allowing them to return to their home and community sooner.

Step Up Step Down provides short term accommodation for people in psychological distress either before an admission to hospital (stepping up) or leaving care in hospital (stepping down).
Stride offers an Adult Step Up Step Down located in Canberra, ACT, and a Youth Step Up Step Down service located in Cairns, Queensland.

Referrals to are welcome from a range of sources including: Adult Mental Health Services, Home Assessment and Acute Response Team, Acute Adult Mental Health Inpatient Units, Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol and Drugs Services). Referrals for our Adult SUSD service are managed through the ACT Mental Health Link.
